Athletics Day

When I was 9 years old, our school had an Athletics Day. We all competed in lots of events, like High Jump, Long Jump,f Vortex, Shot Put, Discus and Sprints.
First, we ran to vortex. The grass was damp and the sticks that were measuring the throws were lined up in a line. Mrs Readman wrote our names down on a piece of paper. Before it was my turn, it was Jaimee’s turn. She threw it and it made a whispering noise when it was soaring through the air. My turn was over. It was Shakira’s turn. She did a big throw. Next, it was my turn again. I picked the vortex up nervously and threw it as hard as I could. It was my best score out of all three of them and, after that, the siren went and then it was time for the next event. I think I did well.

Next, after we did vortex, we did sprints. Mr Emms put us into groups of six and I was in the one of the first groups to race the 80 metre race. I thought that I was going to lose because I wasn’t a good runner. Mr Emms said, “Ready set GO!" then he pulled the trigger of the starter gun. Bang! Molly and I were running our hardest. I couldn’t catch up to her. She was as fast as lightning. We got to the top to race the 100 metre race. I saw Jasmine racing. I was cheering for her and she came in third place.
"Mr Emms, what makes the starter gun make a big noise?” I asked, wondering what it was.
He said that it was gunpowder that makes it.
It was time for the next race. It was further than the last one but I just said to myself, “ It's only a race."
The starter gun went. I ran my fastest. The long green grass was wetting my feet. There was the finish line and I came in second place. I was feeling a bit more confident about myself.

Finally, it was shot put. It was Daneka's turn. She looked like she wasn’t even trying. Next, it was my turn. I thought that it would be a bad throw but it was actually a good one. Our turns were over. The siren went. We didn’t have enough time to announce who came first, second or third. That was sad.

It was a fun day, but I was very tired when I got home from school that afternoon.
